YomTrace
Shea and grain from northern Ghana

Every kilo traced to the woman who picked it.

YomTrace records each bag from the farmer's hands to the buyer's warehouse: who produced it, which community it came from, where it was stored, how it was processed and what the farmer was paid. Every step is sealed in a tamper-evident record.

The code is on every bag label, QR code and buyer certificate. Scanning the QR with a phone camera opens the trace too.

How it works

From the shea tree to the buyer, one unbroken record

YomYom runs rural fulfilment centres in shea and grain communities. Our field agents use YomTrace on a phone, even with no network, and every action becomes part of the trace.

Register the farmer

Name, community, group and farm location, with the farmer's consent. She gets a farmer code by SMS.

Weigh, grade and pay

At the hub we weigh and grade her produce and pay her by Mobile Money on the spot. Each delivery becomes a lot with its own code and SMS receipt.

Store, batch and process

Lots are stored in our centres or partner warehouses, grouped into batches, moved to Tamale and processed into butter. The link to every woman stays intact.

Sell with proof

Buyers get a QR certificate per batch: the women, communities on a map, payments, quality checks and transport, all verifiable.

Fulfilment centres

Store close to home, sell when the price is right

Smallholder farmers and aggregators can store produce at a YomYom centre for a small monthly fee per kilo. You get an SMS receipt and a lot code, and you can take your produce back or sell it to YomYom at any time.

Traceable shea and grain you can prove

Cosmetics and food companies use YomTrace certificates to show where their shea comes from and that the women who produced it were paid fairly. Every batch carries a QR certificate with the communities, the women, the payments, quality checks and transport by YomYom.

  • Origin you can audit: farmer, community and hub for every kilo, down to the individual woman.
  • Proof of payment: Mobile Money payments to farmers recorded at the hub.
  • Tamper-evident: each record is chained to the one before it, so edits show.
  • Delivered by YomYom: haulage from hub to port or factory, nationwide and into West Africa.

About

Built by YomYom, for the women at the heart of shea

YomTrace is YomYom's flagship project to digitise the shea value chain and strengthen women smallholder farmers across northern Ghana. Rural mini-hubs register the women who collect and process shea, give them affordable storage and record their harvests. Buyers, local and global, can then verify the origin, quality and sustainability of the shea they buy. YomTrace was built with support from USAID Feed the Future.

YomYom Services Limited has moved goods across Ghana since 2017, with offices in Tamale and Accra, and delivers into Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin and Côte d'Ivoire.
